About the work
This print is inspired by the unique Spanish colonial and military architecture of Cartagena de Indias, the crown jewel of Colombia's historical heritage. Located on the Caribbean coast of the country, Cartagena is protected by 4 km of walls that constitute the most formidable display of Spanish military architecture, became the main for trade between Spain and its overseas empire.
This artwork is a tribute to its lovely balconies and patios. In the background, the Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de Santa Catalina de Alejandría can be seen, a cathedral dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria that dominates the skyline of the walled city.
